PROGRAM: NO Cost Job Training and Employment Program at Opportunities for a Better Tomorrow (OBT)

Note: Internships also available (restrictions apply).  

Background:
Opportunities for a Better Tomorrow (OBT) is now registering young adults 17 – 21 for the Job Training and Employment Program at both locations (Sunset Park and Bushwick/Williamsburg). The training program provides courses in Business English, Business Math, World of Work, Office Procedures, Computer Training, Public Speaking and Communication, GED preparation (if needed), and job placement assistance.

PROGRAM: Construction Training Program

PROGRAM: Construction Training Program

Note: For New York City Residents Only

Note: Classes begin in February 2010Call to start the application process.

Summary:
  • New York Urban League: Employment Services is participating in a construction training program.
  • Pre-Apprenticeship Training is a full time program that runs from Monday through Friday 7:30AM to 3:30PM for 17 weeks.
  • Commitment to the full 17 weeks is required.
  • If you meet the all the requirements you can complete an application at the address below.
  • Must be 18 to 24 years old by the end of the 17 weeks.
Advantages:
  1. Intensive 17 week training in construction and environmental remediation
  2. Potential to earn 13 combined licenses and certificates
  3. Hands‐on experience
  4. Career guidance
  5. Job placement assistant
  6. Completely tuition‐free training
  7. Lunch and transportation provided daily plus $100 clothing voucher
  8. Set of starter tools provided upon completion of training
  9. HRA approved training provider
Requirements:
  1. 18 Years old
  2. Have at least a high school diploma or GED with transcript
  3. Be physically able to do work
  4. Be able to provide NYS Id., Birth Certificate, Social Security Card and Proof of Address
  5. Have a reading and math skills at 8th grade level
  6. Be able to pass drug test and attend a program orientation
  7. Be committed to completing the entire program full time.
